…you’re trying to find something about them to love, instead of loving them because you love them.

But the reason why we look for something about a person to love, is because we’ve been taught to think that God is also looking for something about us to love. So we perform to try to earn love, thinking that better behavior results in more love.  

Because we believe this, we demand other people to have better behavior before we will love them. We have trouble loving people who hurt us, we have trouble loving people who don’t have the same beliefs/values as us… we have trouble loving people who discourage us, beat us down… we have trouble forgiving offenses…   

We’ve been taught to think that God loves us less because we haven’t gone to church lately, or if we sin… we are definitely far away from God. If we disobey, God definitely loves us less.

God doesn’t love you because He finds something about you that He loves.  

He loves you because that’s who He is.  

He is love.  

You cannot change His love for you. Your actions do not have the ability to change His love for you, because He doesn’t love you based on your actions.  

When you realize that your actions do not dictate how much God loves you, you’ll realize how people’s actions will never have to dictate how much you love them.  

The revelation you have of God’s love for you = The revelation of love you will demonstrate to the world  

We love because He first loved us.
